Xenophobia- an intense fear or dislike of foreign people, their customs and culture, or foreign things

Walking through Chinatown made the man suffer from a case of xenophobia.

 

Obsequious-Obsessively eager to please or obey

As the man approached his boss he was very obsequious.

 

Languorous -  1. Lazy

I was languorous after I woke up.

 

Recalcitrant- Stubbornly resisting the authority of another person or group

While trying to be arrested, Paul Kingman was recalcitrant and got extra jail time for it.

 

Magnanimous- Very generous, kind or forgiving

I was walking through downtown when a lady gave me free cookies; this was a magnanimous act on her part.

 

Trepidation- Fear or uneasiness about the future or a future event

While thinking about graduation, I was suffering from trepidation and didn’t know if I wanted to graduate anymore.

 

Ubiquitous- Present everywhere at once, or seeming to be

The Sun’s light rays were ubiquitous.

 

Kleptomaniac- Somebody with an obsessive urge to steal

Bank robbers and thieves are usually kleptomaniacs.

 

Serendipitous- The accidental discovery of something pleasant, valuable or useful

Finding $100 while I was cleaning was serendipitous.

 

Penultimate- Second to last in a series or sequence

The number 9 is the penultimate in the following series: 3,6,9,12.

 

Megalomaniac- An excessive enjoyment in having power over other people and a craving for more of it

Hitler was a megalomaniac.

 

Cajole- To persuade somebody to do something by flattery or gentle but persistent argument

When I asked my parents for money to go to the movies I put up a cajole argument.

 

Taciturn- Habitually uncommunicative or reserved in speech and manner

Mimes, mutes and shy people are usually taciturn.

 

Myriad- So many that they cannot be counted

There is a myriad amount of living organisms on Earth.

 

Epitome-A highly representative example of a type, class or characteristic

The class leader is an epitome of what the rest of the class should act like.

 

Plethora-A very large amount of something or number of things, especially an excessive amount

Movie stars, pro athletes and the president have a plethora of money.

 

Loquacious- Tending to talk a great deal

People who are loquacious are usually found annoying.

 

Conundrum- Something that is puzzling or confusing

The Sudoku puzzle was a conundrum.

 

Gaudy- Brightly colored or showily decorated to an unpleasant or vulgar degree

The queen went to the grocery store, she was very gaudily dressed.

 

Epiphany- a sudden intuitive leap of understanding , especially through an ordinary but striking occurrence

When I finally understood how to do the math problem I was struck by an epiphany.
